Antislavery Organizations
With millions of children at risk, antislavery organizations work on the front line in the war against child slavery. Their work may be global or localized in a single country, but all of them perform one or more of the following functions:
Prevention, Enforcement, and Advocacy - Antislavery organizations work to inform vulnerable populations about trafficking and child slavery through education and awareness programs. In addition, some provide resources for economic development to ensure that those at risk do not become victims. Though child slavery is illegal everywhere, the laws are not always enforced. These organizations act as advocates for the children so that those responsible are prosecuted and held accountable. They also work to deter others from pursuing slavery or profiting from it.
Rescue and Care for the Victims - Antislavery organizations work with local authorities to rescue children by raiding known establishments or by helping enforce existing laws. Many of these organizations provide food, clothing, a safe environment, medical care, psychological counseling, vocational training, and an education to help the rescued children heal from the physical and emotional trauma of slavery.
